Early (phase I) treatment is recommended when top front or back teeth do not overlap the lower teeth—correction is completed early to promote proper growth of the jaw bones. Early (phase I) treatment lasts only 6-12 months.

Early (phase I) treatment is beneficial in the transition of baby teeth to permanent teeth and can decrease the treatment time of phase II treatment necessary when all permanent teeth erupt.
